Abstract

Movie as the adapted media of literature occasionally get some stories that are exist in real life, either the main story or the addition story. And one of the real lives contents that usually appear in media, particularly in comedy movies is Irony. Knowing such conditions, the writer is attracted to research a comedy movie that contains irony on it, which is Johnny English (2003). The movie is distributed by Universal Pictures. That combined two genres, action and comedy. Johnny English (2003) is directed by Peter Howitt. This research aims to discover the humors that appear trough irony in the movie Johnny English (2003). The problems are the Ironies in Johnny English (2003) movie trough the character of Johnny English and how the irony show humours content in Johnny English (2003) movie. This research uses descriptive analysis method to analyze the data. The data itself are the scene, dialogue and scene description of the movie Johnny English which is directed by Peter Howitt. The writer collects the data by taking screen shoots of the movie. The theory that is used is theory about irony by M.H Abrams and humour by Salvatore Attardo. The result of the research shows that ironies found in Johnny English are Verbal Irony, Structural Irony, Dramatic Irony, Cosmic Irony and Romantic Irony. The ironies appear into humour trough the dialogue, motive, act, character, and situation of the movie Johnny English (2003). The writer hopes that the further research about irony and humour can discover how or what are the elements that could make the irony change or existing into humour. Film sebagai media adaptasi sastra terkadang memunculkan cerita- cerita yang ada dalam kehidupan nyata, baik sebagai cerita utama atau cerita tambahan. Dan salah satu konten kehidupan nyata yang biasanya muncul di media, terutama di film komedi adalah Irony. Mengetahui kondisi tersebut, peneliti tertarik untuk meneliti sebuah film komedi yang mengandung ironi di dalamnya, yaitu Johnny English (2003). Film ini didistribusikan oleh Universal Pictures. Itu gabungan dua genre, action dan komedi. Johnny English (2003) disutradarai oleh Peter Howitt. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan humor yang muncul melalui ironi dalam film Johnny English (2003). Permasalahan yang dimunculkan dalam penelitian ini adalah Ironi dalam film Johnny English (2003) yang dimunculkan melalui karakter Johnny English dan bagaimana ironi tersebut menunjukkan konten humor dalam film Johnny English (2003). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif untuk menganalisis data. Data itu sendiri adalah adegan, dialog dan deskripsi adegan dari film Johnny English yang disutradarai oleh Peter Howitt. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan mengambil screen shoots dari adegan – adegan dalam film. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori ironi dari M.H Abrams dan humor dari Salvatore Attardo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ironi yang ditemukan di Johnny English adalah Ironi Verbal, Ironi Struktural, Ironi Dramatis, Ironi Kosmik dan Ironi Romantis. Ironi memunculkan humor melalui dialog, motif, tindakan, karakter, dan situasi film Johnny English (2003). Peneliti berharap untuk penelitian selanjutnya mengenai humor dan irony dapat memperlihatkan factor factor mengapa irony dapat berubah menjadi humor. Kata kunci: Humor, Ironi, Johnny English.
