Abstract
This research is to determine the improvement of listening comprehension of the eleventh students at a senior high school in Bandung using English talk show videos. Students of a senior high school find difficulties in listening and comprehending what they listen to. Therefore, the researcher offers an alternative way to face their English learning problems by using a media instrument, English talk show videos from the Ellen Show channel published on YouTube. This research used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design that included data collection with one pre-test and post-test group using multiple choices and filled-in blanks. The research aims to find out students’ listening comprehension before using English talk show videos, to find out students’ listening comprehension after using English talk show videos, and to explore the significant difference of using English talk show videos on YouTube in developing students' listening skills. The data was taken by random sampling technique with 33 students of the eleventh grade of senior high school as sample. Meanwhile, the statistical data calculation results showed that there was significant mean score which was 73.12 on the pre-test and 87.26 on the post-test. This means that students’ listening comprehension improved after using English talk show videos with the difference mean score of both tests in 14.14. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis was accepted, and the Null one was rejected. It was also supported by N-Gain mean score of 0.5402 with the medium range category, which means the media of this research was effective enough to develop students’ listening comprehension. In conclusion, using English talk show videos can be one reliable teaching media for improving listening comprehension.
