Abstract

Code mixing is refers to all cases where lexical items and grammatical features from two languages appear in one sentence. The reason of this research is the emergence of code mixing in sport articles on kompas newspaper becoming phenomenon that is interesting to be analyzed. The analysis is devided into two statement problems (1) What types of code mixing are found in sport articles of "Kompas" newspaper? And (2) What contextual meanings of such English terms are used as code mixing in sport articles of "Kompas" newspaper? he research used descriptive qualitative method by analyzing data. The researcher uses theories of code mixing to answer the question. The theory which is used in the research is theory of Muysken (2000) to solve types of code mixing. Besides, the researcher also uses Kridalaksana’s theory about contextual meaning. The object in this research is sport articles on kompas newspaper. The result of the research derives from the research question in statement of problem. The findings show that there are two types of code mixing in the sport articles there are insertion types and alternation types. Besides the meaning of such English sporting terms are used as code mixing in sport articles show that every single word, the word has its own meaning as the word itself. From the findings of the data analysis, it can be concluded afterwards from 29 data from sport articles of kompas newspaper, there are 23 insertion types, 6 alternation types and congruent lexicalization not found in the data which the analysis.
