Abstract

This research focuses on finding the pillars of white supremacy in film American History X and the impact of white supremacy towards the white character in the film using the main theory 3 pillars of white supremacy of Andrea Smith. There are two questions in this research: 1) How does the film American History X portrayed the pillars of white supremacy? 2) How does the white supremacy impact Derek Vinyard in film American History X? The qualitative descriptive research method is used in this research in order to understand a phenomenon of morality and values. Motion picture and dialogue are used as source of data which according to Cresswell are needed for this method. The results of this thesis shows the portrayal three pillars of white supremacy such as orientalism, genocide, and capitalism. The second result is found white supremacy has impacted Derek Vinyard in many ways such as racial discrimination, beneficiary of systemic bias, and violence. The researcher would like to suggest the readers to watch movies more carefully, and the movie industry, especially Hollywood to stop promoting the racial stereotypes, and for the future researcher who is interested in analysing a movie with postcolonialism approach can consider to use different object with the same theory
