Abstract

According to Campbell (1995) Travel writing has continued along with sometimes between the same covers as the work of historical and culture revision. Most interesting here are works of literary criticism that find themselves directly facing the point of view on the reality in the past and also to show the writer‘s point of view in his literary works. As Richard Wright in The Color Curtain (1956) wrote the travel writing about the historical of Asia-Africa Conference which considers as the example of travel writing that shows the historical and culture perspective. Due to this, the researcher then proposed the problem: 1) how does the Eastern point of view to the Western in The Color Curtain? 2) How does Richard Wright‘s point of view in The Color Crtain as the Easterner? In order to make the elaboration arguable, reasonable, and justifiable, the researcher also have chosen the Occidentalism theory to be constructed as theoretical standpoint as well as the approach to solve the problems. Also, used the descriptive analysis as method and technique qualitative data. The result of the research showed the The Color Curtain was indeed the travel writing which reflected and represented Occidentalism discourse. The books represented the East point of view to the West in The Color Curtain, the Eastern point of view to the West with Richard Wright identity. The Eastern point of view can see in Richard Wright show which Asia-Africa conference is the important part of changing political world, and then, the positioning of East in front of West are clear after Asia-Africa Conference.
