Abstract

The acquisition of English language proficiency depends on auditory input. Listening skills a critical component of the language learning process. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the scaffolding methodology on improving the effectiveness of listening abilities in eleventh-grade students of senior high school. The research question are: First, how is the students’ score in listening skills before being taught using the scaffolding method?; Second, how is the students’ score in listening skills after being taught using the scaffolding method?; Third, how is significant difference of students' listening skills before and after being taught using the scaffolding method?. The present investigation utilized a quantitative methodology in the shape of a pre-experimental design to evaluate the statistical significance of students' scores before and after treatment involving the implementation of the scaffolding technique. The pre-test and post-test procedures were administered to 36 students in Class XI of MAN 2 Bandung, comprising 14 male and 22 female students. In order to carry out this study, a total of five meetings were convened. A pre-test was administered to the experimental group during their initial meeting. During the second to fourth sessions, the treatment were administered. The post-tests are administered to the experimental group during the final session. The assessment was conducted in two phases, a pre-test and a post-test, utilizing the multiple-choice format. In order to ascertain the results of this investigation, a comparison was made between the pre-test and post-test scores. The statistical software IBM SPSS 22 and Excel Office were utilized to analyze the data in this study. The pre-test findings indicate that the mean score obtained was 68.00. According to the post-test outcome, the average score was 73.29. To assess the statistical significance of the observed difference, the t-value of 9.574 was compared against the critical t-value of 1.692 obtained from the t-table. The calculated t-value exceeds the critical t-value from the t-distribution table. Thus demonstrating a statistically significant disparity between the two variables. Furthermore, the study reported a mean N-Gain value of 0.19. The score of 0.19 was designated as having a low level (g 0.3). The significance level for this investigation is 0.05, with a two-tailed test. The statistical significance level of the test, as indicated by the two-tailed Sig. The value of 0.000 leads to the conclusion that the result is less than the predetermined alpha level of 0.05. The findings of this study suggest that the null hypothesis H_(0 ) was refuted, while the alternative hypothesis H_a was accepted. This indicates that a noteworthy distinction existed in the listening abilities of students prior and following the implementation of the scaffolding method intervention at XI MIPA 2 of MAN 2 Bandung.
