Abstract
Automatic speech recognition (ASR) is a machine-based method for automatically decoding and transcribing spoken language. It can be used in education as a teaching medium to help students improve their speaking skills. Its efficiency in improving pronunciation is regarded favourably as a language-learning application. The goal of this study is to determine how the teacher uses ASR in teaching pronunciation as well as to find out the teacher's obstacles in teaching pronunciation using ASR. This study takes a qualitative approach because it focuses on humans, specifically teachers who use ASR to teach pronunciation. In order to acquire data, observations and interviews are undertaken at MAN 2 Kota Bandung. The research participant in this study was an English teacher at MAN 2 Kota Bandung due to the rarity of ASR employment as a teaching medium for acquiring pronunciation at school. The use of ASR systems in the teaching of pronunciation has created new opportunities and challenges in the field of language education. It can be seen by how ASR helps the learning process for students in recognizing various pronunciations of English vocabulary. When teaching pronunciation using ASR itself, the teacher has a number of obstacles. To overcome the challenges that ASR technology provides, adjustments and techniques are required. Teachers must overcome difficulties such as system correctness and reliability to ensure that the ASR tool gives students meaningful and accurate feedback. They must also strike a balance between ASR-assisted practice and traditional teaching approaches, retaining a human touch while embracing technology. Teachers must also be knowledgeable about the technical components of ASR systems and be able to troubleshoot any issues that students may encounter. Because the scope of this study is limited, future researchers are encouraged to conduct more in-depth research on the ASR system in the educational field.
