Abstract
Transformation is the process of transforming works of literature in their original of novels, stories, or plays into film format, it is included in comparative literary studies as ecranization. Many popular films gained popularity from ecranization. As therefore, it is both interesting and essential to do study on this topic using the following research questions: (1) What intrinsic elements are found in both novel Persuasion and the movie? (2) How are the transformation of the novel Persuasion into the movie Persuasion constructed? This study used a descriptive qualitative method and the theories of Eneste (1991) about the process of ecranization, especially from novel to movie, the findings based on the data analysis showed that the intrinsic elements transformed were the reduction Additions, reductions, and various changes. This study found that the process of transformation of the novel persuasion into movie in terms of characters concluded 1 reduction and 4 variations of changes. Meanwhile, for the transformation of plot, in the movie features 6 additions, 6 reductions and 8 variations of changes. Additions, reductions, and various changes to both the novel and the movie occurred because the director also wanted to make a difference between novel and movie.
