Abstract

It is known to be a such a standard for all of individual exists in an environment of society, to live an ideal state of life in scale of group living. This tendency brought the value of society in having them prevented among the deviant behaviour of crossing the societal standards and norms. This following deviance known further existing along the duality of human’s behaviour in the living. Deviances among duality appear in much larger scale of human living, starting in the small field of society, even its existence in various literary works. The work of Arthur Miller in 1953, The Crucible play does provide the huge picture of mass hysteria among society, and highlighting how broad the impact of deviances towards certain livings in a town called Salem. The following research would furtherly break down the way deviances exist in the play through the brief method of Becker, along with seeing the existence of binary opposition among the character dynamics through the brief method of Levi-Strauss.
