Abstract

Incorporating the theory of multiple intelligences in teaching can help teachers tailor their teaching methods to meet the needs of students with different intellectual strengths. By identifying how teachers carry out the teaching process based on the theory of multiple intelligences, this research sheds light on how this theory is applied in teaching English to young learners and contributes to developing practical language teaching practices that address the diverse learning needs of students. Understanding the various kinds of human intelligence can assist teachers in choosing appropriate teaching strategies and guide students toward specific career paths. Thus, teachers need to understand the different types of human intelligence to help students learn more effectively. The purpose of this study is to delve into the process of teaching EYL based on the theory of multiple intelligences. The study explores how teachers can utilize this theory to design effective learning environments for EYL students. Additionally, the study also aims to investigate how EYL teachers perceive the concept of multiple intelligences in their lessons. By gaining a deeper understanding of these aspects, the study hopes to provide valuable insights into the field of EYL teaching and contribute towards improving teaching methodologies for EYL students. A qualitative research design was used in the study. It was selected because Creswell (2007) stated that a case study is a detailed investigation of a constrained system (such as an activity, event, process, or person) based on a significant amount of data. The observation and interview were examined to gather the data. Moreover, the participant of this research is a teacher from a private school in Bekasi. The teachers at the English Club of a Private School in Bekasi have implemented the teaching process for teaching EYL based on multiple intelligences theory. The teachers' perception of multiple intelligences in EYL lessons is also positive, and the teacher believes that this approach is effective in enhancing students' learning outcomes. The study found that the teacher has used various teaching methods and materials to cater to students' different intelligences, such as verbal/linguistic, musical, and visual/spatial. However, there is still room for improvement, such as using more concrete materials to facilitate students' learning and conducting more activities involving numbers and problem-solving. Therefore, it is recommended that EYL teachers use multiple intelligences theory as a framework in their teaching process to promote more effective and inclusive learning. By utilizing various teaching methods and materials that cater to different intelligences, such as verbal/linguistic, musical, and visual/spatial, teachers can create a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
