Abstract
This research aims to analyze kind of symbols and the meaning of symbols of the dark side. the theory that used in this research is Arthur asa Berger symbol theory. The Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith had its world premiere on May 15, 2005, at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was praised for its mature tone, story, emotional weight, action sequences, score, visual effects, and performances by McGregor, McDiarmid, Oz, and Jimmy Smits; it is widely regarded as the best prequel trilogy installment. The film's dialogue and Christensen's performance received most of the criticism. During its opening week, it set a number of records at the box office and went on to earn over $868 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing Star Wars film at the time. In this research, the symbols of the dark side are found in the dialogue of the film in some scenes. The film “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith” contain many kinds of symbol of the dark side that can be analyzed using Arthur Asa Berger Symbols theory. The theory that used in this research is the theory of Arthur Asa Berger to analyze the kind symbol of the dark side and the meaning symbol of the dark side. the kind of symbol in Arthur Berger are Conventional Symbol, Accidental Symbol, and Universal Symbol. Based on the analysis, Conventional Symbols can be found through the dialogue that contains a symbol that refers to Color, Nature, and Human Body Parts. Accidental Symbols can be found in the dialogue that includes the topic of accidents from the past and happening again in the future. Meanwhile, Universal symbols are symbols that are considered previously agreed-upon meanings by all people around the world because of their experiences.
