Abstract
The essence of learning a language is understanding words. Words are closely related to morphology because morphology affects how words are spelled, understood in reading contexts, and expanded in vocabulary. A study was conducted to identify the derivational and inflexional morphemes present in the novel china rich girlfriend. This study aims to analyze the use of derivational and inflectional affixes in the novel "China Rich Girlfriend" by Kevin Kwan. The analysis method used is descriptive qualitative method with morphological linguistic approach. The data used is the text of the novel which contains derivational and inflectional affixes. This research identifies the types of affixes used, patterns of word formation, and the role of affixes in enriching the language structure in the novel. The result shows that there are 674 derivational morphemes which can be grouped into 12 types, and 1,420 inflectional morphemes which can be grouped into 8 types. The morpheme that appears most often in the novel is the plural inflectional type, which is 328 times. After considering the data analysis, the process of derivational and inflectional affixes in the novel china rich girlfriend prefers inflectional affixes over derivational affixes. In addition, there are only 674 types of derivational affixes that occur in 12 processes. Those affixes play an important role in forming word structure and help readers to understand the context and characters in the story.
