Abstract
This research aims to identify and analyze the type of illocutionary acts in a speech. Speeches are often used as a medium to convey opinions and views believed by speakers. The issues conveyed can vary, one of which is the issue of masculinity. The masculine concept believed by most people has been going on for a long time. However, the stigma does not fully have a good impact. This research used the theory of the illocutionary act proposed by Searle (1979) and the masculine theory from Beynon (2010). The researcher adopted a qualitative descriptive approach by analyzing Justin Baldoni and Tony Porter's speeches regarding how illocutionary speech acts were used. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the illocutionary acts used by the two speakers regarding the issue of masculinity. Data analysis focused on the type of illocutionary speech acts related to masculinity issues. The results showed that in the speech delivered by Justin Baldoni, 25 utterances included illocutionary speech acts, of the total data there were 9 representative data, 9 expressive data, 4 directive data, and 3 commissive data. In Tony Porter's speech, there are 20 utterances included in the illocutionary acts; 9 representative data, 8 expressive data, 2 directive data, and 1 commissive data. From these results, the researcher found that the two speakers had similarities in the use of illocutionary speech acts, where both were more dominant in using representative and expressive types of illocutionary speech acts. Apart from that, the difference between the two speakers is that each of them has a different opinion regarding the expressions used in the use of expressions of requests or orders to listeners regarding masculine issues to jointly reconstruct them.
