Abstract

This research is conducted in aiming the result upon identification for the types How is the fetishism commodity depicted selected songs Hip-Hop Songs from 2010-2020. However, this research deployed the foundation theories understanding from the beginning standpoint that the consideration of song as literary work, popular literature, lyric as poem, and teh study of commodity of fetishism types. Followed by the depiction form in rap or hip-hop music understanding. This research deployed the qualitative descriptive method, where this method is aimed to pursue the most detailed novelty understanding from the research interest. As the result, the research concludes with a thorough examination of commodity fetishism in rap music, focusing on 10 selected songs from 2010 to 2020. The study identifies various forms of depiction, encompassing narrative, descriptive, political/social commentary, and personal/confessional rap. Narrative rap, exemplified by Eminem and Nas, transcends entertainment, addressing pressing social issues such as racial inequality and police violence. Descriptive rap, as seen in Ice Cube's work, vividly portrays specific scenarios, particularly the complex relationship between law enforcement and the African American community. Political/social commentary rap, exemplified by Common and Lil Baby, critically reflects on systemic problems, providing historical context and calling for proactive measures. Personal/confessional rap, seen in artists like H.E.R, YG, J. Cole, Joey Badass, and Joyner Lucas, authentically expresses individual experiences, evolving into calls to action and shared expressions of pain and resilience. This exploration underscores rap's multifaceted nature as a platform for personal expression and societal critique.
