Abstract

This research investigates the process of adapting intrinsic elements from Heinlein’s short story All You Zombies (1959) into the movie Predestination (2014) With a focus on plot, characterization, and story setting, this research presents an in-depth analysis of how the transformation of literary works into visual form affects the narrative of the story. Through a theoretical approach and qualitative analysis, this research reveals the complexity in changes in key elements between the original work and its adaptation, as well as how the adaptation enriches the audience's experience through careful adjustment and reinterpretation. The research results highlight the important role of adaptation in responding to changes in the way we create, tell and understand stories in the context of modern visual culture. By comparing short stories and films, this research explores the various interpretations and meanings that emerge, as well as highlighting developments in modern literature where literary stories are often adapted into film form. This research also shows how important literary analysis is in evaluating literary works from various points of view, and reminds us of the important role of literary research in documenting and analyzing changes in the way we create, tell and understand stories
