Abstract

This research aims to determine the theme and portrait of life through a comparison of the films Raya and The Last Dragon and Ngeri Ngeri Sedap which focus on diversity in the Southeast Asian region. Through this comparison, it becomes one of the things that introduces the diversity or characteristics of what is in the Southeast Asian region to the public. This research uses Damono's theory of comparison using descriptive qualitative methods and is supported by an interpretive approach. The data or object of research in this study is taken from the main source, namely the films Raya and The Last Dragon and Ngeri Ngeri Sedap. Furthermore, this research using Kluckhohn's theory which examines the portrait of life in a society. The use of this theory serves to narrow down or provide a clearer outline of the portrait of life. Based on the results of the analysis, it is found that there are similarities in the themes raised in the films Raya and The Last Dragon and Ngeri Ngeri Sedap, namely Unity in Diversity. Furthermore, there is a diversity of portrait of life in both films that can be seen from language, social organization system, living equipment system and technology, economic stems and livelihoods, religion, and art.
