Abstract

The study explores the impact of language acquisition theories on multilingual students, focusing on Indonesian mother tongues. The research aims to understand the unique needs and strengths of these students, addressing common linguistic challenges like grammar issues and mixed vocabulary. The study also examines teaching and learning strategies to support multilingual students in their educational journeys. The research involved six multilingual students from various language departments at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung and Padjadjaran University, using a narrative inquiry approach. The study aims to contribute to existing knowledge and offer a comprehensive understanding of multilingualism among students. Factors influencing language acquisition include formal education, exposure to the language, and familial influences. Multilingual individuals face challenges in learning and using their languages, such as grammar, diverse vocabulary, and a lack of output skills.
