Abstract
This research discusses character development and moral values in the folklore of Little Red Riding Hood from England and Malin Kundang from Indonesia. This research aims to examine the character development of main character carried out by both folklores and to explain the similarities in moral values of both folklores. Two folklores are compared in this research, using comparative literature studies. This research uses objective research because in analyzing character development and morals, the researcher focuses on character and moral analysis where both elements are intrinsic, in addition, this research also uses structural analysis by focusing on the entire content of the two works studied. The results of this research are despite their different cultural origins, both stories offer significant insights into human behavior and moral lessons. Little Red Riding Hood illustrates a journey from naivety to awareness, innocence to disillusionment, helplessness to empowerment, and more wisdom and vigilance, emphasizing the importance of obedience, caution, and vigilance. Her experiences highlight the value of following guidance and recognizing potential dangers. Conversely, Malin Kundang portrays a trajectory from humble beginnings, ambition and success, arrogance and denial, to his downfall and consequences due to arrogance and ingratitude. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the perils of pride and the necessity of humility and respect. Through their contrasting character arcs, both tales underscore the consequences of one's actions and decisions, offering timeless moral teachings relevant across cultures and generations. This comparative research reveals the universality of certain moral values and the diverse ways they can be conveyed through storytelling, enriching our understanding of cultural values and human knowledge.
