Abstract
The fantasy genre is a popular story among the public. It is much loved because it has interesting fantasy elements, namely magical powers, magical worlds, magical creatures that exist in it. In this research, the writer focuses on discussing magical creatures in building the fantasy formula in the movie under study, this research discusses how magical creatures build the fantasy formula. Explaining what the fantasy world looks like in which there is a magical creature. This paper also discusses the representation of magical creatures in the films studied. The theory used is taken from John. G. Cawelty and Joyce. G. Saricks. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, where the source of data collected comes from documentation studies, in the form of writing, photos, videos. Primary data are taken from the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022), then the script as secondary data. This research shows that the significance of magical creature in building fantasy formula is very important. Because the existence of magical creatures in fantasy stories is very influential on the course of the story, such as in imaginary beings, conflicts that occur, elements of magic and magic. It cannot be separated from the role of magical creatures. And also, the results of the representation of magical creatures in the films studied produce magical creatures that represent good and bad.
