Abstract
Morphological process is a process of word formation through the addition of an affix. A word normally begins with a root or base. When a root or base is added by derivational affixes, it will result a new lexeme and mostly modify both of the word class and the meaning. This research is categorized into qualitative research which use descriptive method to analyze the data. The data are taken from Jakarta Globe online newspaper. Based on the background above, the problem of the research is then formulated into two questions: (1) how is the morphological process of derivational words in the Jakarta Globe online newspaper; (2) how is the changing of word meaning after being added by derivational affixes in the Jakarta Globe online newspaper. To answer the research questions above, there are theory from O’Grady and Guzman which are used in this research to analyze morphological process of derivation using tree diagram. By using that theory, it will be known the internal structure of words and the changing of parts of speech. Besides, the writer also uses the theory from Plag to know the types and the meanings of derivational affixes. This research used documentation technique or document analysis in collecting data. After collecting data, the writer continues to technique of analyzing data. The technique of analyzing data are: 1) identifying the data of derivational words; 2) Classifying derivational words into each types or word class categories; 3) Interpreting or analyzing the data. Based on the analysis of data, it is found that: firstly, there are 56 words which are categorized into four types of derivational words in the Jakarta Globe online newspaper. They are: 25 derivational form of nouns, 5 of derivational form of verbs, 20 of derivational form of adjectives, and 6 of derivational form of adverbs. In the morphological process of derivation, there are derivational affixes that changed the part of speech from its root, and there are also derivational affixes that did not change the part of speech from its root. Secondly, the adding of derivational affixes semantically changes the words meaning from its root.
