Abstract
Fe3O4/Cdots nanocomposite has been successfully prepared by combining Fe3O4 synthesized using Moringa oleifera extract and Cdots from orange peel to degrade MB waste. The incorporation process was done through sonication. Photoluminescence characterization results show that Cdots and Fe3O4/Cdots have peak emission wavelengths around 444 nm and 421 nm, respectively. UV-Vis characterization results obtained peak absorbance wavelengths on Cdots around 308 nm, on Fe3O4 around 194 nm and on Fe3O4/Cdots around 284 nm. From the absorbance wavelength, the energy gap value of each material can be known, namely Cdots 3.25 eV, Fe3O4 1.9 eV and Fe3O4/Cdots 3.23 eV. The results of FTIR characterization of Fe3O4/Cdots nanocomposite showed the presence of typical functional groups of Cdots and Fe3O4, namely the presence of O-H bond at 3295 cm-1, C=C bond at 1633 cm-1, and Fe-O at 557 cm-1. In testing the photocatalytic activity, Fe3O4/Cdots 0.08 g was able to degrade Methylene blue organic dye waste up to 99,0% in 30 minutes of UV radiation. Thus, the Fe3O4/Cdots nanocomposite shows potential as an agent for heavy metal removal and as a promising photocatalyst in effective and efficient environmental remediation efforts.
