Abstract
Advisors: (1) Pepen Priyawan, M.Hum. (2) Ice Sariyati, M.Pd. This research focuses on finding out the types of illocutionary acts and the context of illocutionary act used by the characters in Joshua Michael Stern’s in Jobs Movie. In analyzing the data, the writer uses the theory of illocutionary acts from Austin (1962) and Searle (1979) about the types of illocutionary act and Hymes (1962) about the context of situation. The qualitative method is used as the method of analysis. Meanwhile the data are taken from Joshua Michael Stern’s in Jobs Movie. Based on the findings, there are five types of illocutionary act used by the characters according to Searle’s theory. They are directive, representative, expressive, commissive, and declarative. Then, the second finding in this study which is classified to the context of illocutionary is the addressor, the addressee, the audience, the topic and the setting in which the result of its appearance is same. On the other side there are just once the appearance of the event in Jobs Movie because the usual conversation in this movie are not included into the event of the context situation based on Hymes theory.
