Abstract

Adanya digitalisasi teknologi sekarang ini menghadirkan ledakan informasi dan penyebaran berita yang cepat. Oleh sebab itu, tak jarang penyebaran berita sampah, bohong, dan keliru banyak merebak sehingga menimbulkan kebingungan di tengah masyarakat. Menghadapi fenomena tersebut, Tempo sebagai media yang memiliki sejarah panjang terus menggencarkan usahanya dalam menghadirkan berita-berita kritis dan berkualitas dalam setiap produk jurnalismenya, termasuk dalam laporan investigasi. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mencari tahu bagaimana pola kerja dari wartawan investigasi di media Tempo yang berfokus pada tiga tahapan kerja jurnalisme, yakni tahapan pra produksi berita, produksi berita investigasi, dan pasca produksi berita investigasi. Penelitian ini menerapkan konsep langkah-langkah peliputan investigasi menurut Paul N. Williams. Pendekatan yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan deskriptif kualitatif sebagai metodenya. Selain itu, teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakannya adalah wawancara serta observasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya beberapa proses yang dilalui Tempo untuk melakukan suatu liputan investigasi. Dalam proses pra produksi dijumpai bahwa wartawan Tempo mengawalinya dari proses pencarian ide melalui rapat redaksi dan pemilihan ide yang berlandaskan pada kepentingan publik (conception), kemudian melakukan studi kelayakan serta pemetaan risiko (feasibility study), mempertimbangkan keberlanjutan peliputan (go-no-go), melakukan penghimpunan dokumen awal peliputan melalui internet (basebuilding) dan melakukan perencanaan individu yang akan turun ke lapangan (planning). Pada proses produksi, wartawan Tempo menerapkan teknik follow the people dan follow the paper untuk menelusuri data di lapangan serta menawarkan anonimitas bagi narasumber yang menolak untuk dimintai keterangan (original research), mengupayakan konfirmasi berulang melalui berbagai cara dan saluran komunikasi (filling the gaps), pada akhir produksi dilakukan evaluasi terhadap hasil peliputan yang berlandaskan pada etika keberimbangan, dan dampaknya bagi publik (final evaluation). Pada tahapan pasca produksi, wartawan bersama dengan editor meninjau penulisan agar berorientasi pada kepentingan publik (writing and rewriting), dilanjutkan dengan publikasi lintas platform seperti majalah cetak, artikel pada situs web, serta media sosial, kemudian menyediakan protokol keamanan bagi wartawan untuk menghindari ancaman pasca publikasi hasil peliputan investigasi (publication). The digitalization of technology has led to an explosion of information and the rapid dissemination of news. As a result, trashy, false, and misleading news often spreads widely, causing confusion among the public. In the face of this phenomenon, Tempo, a long-standing media outlet, continues to intensify its efforts to deliver critical, high-quality news in all its journalistic products, including investigative reports. This study aims to examine the work patterns of Tempo's investigative journalists, focusing on the three stages of journalism: pre-production, investigative reporting, and post-production. The study applies Paul N. Williams's investigative reporting steps. The approach used in this study is qualitative with qualitative descriptive as the method. The data collection techniques used were interviews and observations. The results show that Tempo goes through several processes to conduct investigative reporting. During the pre-production phase, Tempo journalists begin with editorial meetings to generate ideas and select those based on public interest. This is followed by a feasibility study and risk mapping, consideration of the sustainability of the coverage, gathering initial coverage documents online, and individual planning for those who will go into the field. During the production phase, Tempo journalists used the "follow the people" and "follow the paper" techniques to trace data in the field, offer anonymity to reluctant sources, and seek repeated confirmation through various channels and means of communication. At the end of the production phase, the journalists conduct an evaluation of the coverage's results based on ethical balance and its impact on the public. In the post-production phase, journalists collaborate with editors to ensure their writing is oriented toward the public interest. This involves writing and rewriting, as well as cross-platform publication in print magazines, on websites, and on social media. Finally, they provide security protocols to help journalists avoid threats after publishing investigative reports.
