Abstract
ENGLISH: Shallow water flow is an important phenomenon in hydrodynamics, commonly found in water systems such as rivers, canals, and irrigation channels. This flow can be mathematically modeled using the Shallow Water Equations (SWE), which represent the conservation of mass and momentum in flows with relatively small depth compared to the wavelength. One of the main challenges in modeling such flows is addressing geometric variations in the channel, particularly spatial changes in width, which can significantly influence flow behavior. This study aims to develop a numerical simulation of one-dimensional shallow water flow in a channel with non-uniform width using the finite volume method based on a staggered grid scheme, and to analyze the effects of width variation on water depth, flow velocity, and free surface profile in a dam break scenario. The simulation was implemented using Scilab software with one-dimensional discretization and fixed boundary conditions. The results demonstrate that the staggered grid scheme effectively captures the interaction between flow and channel morphology, both in uniform and non-uniform channel widths. In the non-uniform case, width variation induces more complex flow patterns and localized erosion, whereas in the uniform case, significant erosion occurs in the central domain. Thus, the proposed numerical approach is suitable for analyzing complex flow systems and is applicable in hydraulic engineering and water resource management.
