Abstract
Living in 21st century lead you to operate some activities by using technology. This technology decreases the time and effort in daily human life. Include teaching; some instructors use technology in facilitating the students to gain new knowledge through learning. CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) is a new type of education that brings ICT (Information Communication and Technology) combined with some materials trough learning and teaching activities. Additionally, this ICT takes a unique situation and experiment in learning and teaching activities. This study is purposed to explore the benefit of ICT in teaching English to young foreign learners. The study is also aimed to reveal the function of ICT in encountering the student teachers’ challenges in teaching Thai young learners. The participant used qualitative case in this study. Five participants were involved in this study. All participants are student teachers of English education department in State Islamic University of Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung who joined an international internship program in Thailand. They lived in Thailand for two months and taught in 7 schools in Southern Thailand. Questionnaire and interview were used to collect the data. The result of this study is that all participant encounter challenges in teaching English to Thai young learners by using ICT during the internship program. They used some types of ICTs in facing the barriers that happened in teaching Thai young learners. The most challenges that experienced by the student was a language barrier. Also, the most types of ICT that used by the student teacher are laptop/computer and online dictionary. Furthermore, the students were enjoying learning with ICT. This research is expected to help those who teach in the different area, especially in teaching English to young learners.
