Abstract
This paper used a comparative descriptive method to describe and compare the methods and techniques of translating Al-Qur’an in Indonesia focusing on its translations in Indonesian and Sundanese languages. The works under study were the commentaries made by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) and Sundanese commentators of Al-Munir: Al-Qur’an Tarjamah Basa Sunda by Djawad Dahlan (abbreviated TJD), and AlAmin: Al-Qur'an Tarjamah Sunda by Qamaruddin Shaleh, et al. (abbreviated TQS). Based on the analysis of the results of the translations above, several techniques were used in translating the Qur'an into Indonesian (TI), TJD and TQS namely correspondence, description, expansion, particularization, amplification, explanation, substitution, transfer or literal, modulation, and addition techniques. All these techniques demonstrate the translators' innovation and creativity to strengthen their readers’ understanding of Al-Qur'an.
