Abstract

ENGLISH : Studying away from home is a common condition in the educational context, leading to the emergence of migrant students. In 2023, a total of 602,208 students in Indonesia decided to discontinue their higher education. One concrete reason for dropping out is the inability to meet academic or learning demands. This study aims to examine the relationships between grit and growth mindset with academic buoyancy among first-year migrant students at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, as well as to test the mediating role of growth mindset in this relationship. This study involved 209 migrant students at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung and employed a quantitative correlational causality design with purposive sampling. Three measurement instruments were used in this study: the Academic Buoyancy Scale based on Martin and Marsh, the Grit-O Scale referring to the aspects proposed by Duckworth et al., and the Growth Mindset Scale developed by Dweck. The results indicated a significant positive effect of grit on academic buoyancy. Furthermore, mediation analysis revealed that growth mindset partially mediates the relationship between grit and academic buoyancy.
