Abstract
Women with their duties, roles and purposes influence the prosperity of men individually as the match made by Allah. Additionally, they influence prosperity of the society even more the nation. Hence, women’s personality is considered to be significantly elaborated in detail to create prosperous life. This research is aimed to investigate Qur’an’s perspective about women which is limited to the terms of al-Mar’ah and al-Nisâ. Employing qualitative method, particularly to emphasize the implicit point in Quran either it is from the linguistics or the semantics aspects inside the verses, this research utilizes library research, using the related research questions and its’ formulated sub units. The resource of this study is limited to the written information primarily and secondarily. The collected data are analyzed by Tafsir Maudu’iy method in semantic approach. The results reveal that al-Mar’ah is mentioned 26 times in 25 ayats and 15 surahs, Al-Nisaa is cited 57 times in 53 ayats and 15 surahs, and Al-Untsa is cited about 30 times in 26 ayats and 17 surahs. al-Mar’ah and al-Nisâ is defined as the mature women which is different from al-Untsa that means women in general, from the baby girls to the old women, this word has no other meaning except the gender of women. The word “Al-Maráh” is never used for women as girls. In contrary, the word “al-Nisâ”is used several times to address girls and old women. It is mostly related to Sharia law, marriage and legacy. In the other hand, the word al-Mar’ah shows the women personality. The basis meaning of al-Mar’ah is the women with their characters and as the wife. For al-Nisâ, it means the women as general. The relational meaning of word al-Mar’ah is the women personality and of word al-Nisâ is related to the duties, roles, and purposes as the wives and musawwaf (equality) between men and women.
