Abstract
This research develops an Android-based expert system using the Certainty Factor method to diagnose Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in mountain climbers. Given the increasing popularity of mountain climbing, the health of climbers has become a vital priority, particularly in facing the risk of AMS that can threaten their safety. Consequently, the study proposes an Android-based expert system implementation to aid climbers in diagnosing AMS. The Certainty Factor method serves as the foundation, enabling the amalgamation of confidence levels and uncertainties from various rules to reach a final conclusion. By leveraging expert knowledge about AMS, the system provides an estimation of AMS probability based on user-reported symptoms. Test results from 50 sample data show a 92% accuracy rate for this expert system, confirming its effectiveness and validity in diagnosing AMS. This achievement yields substantial benefits, including providing accurate information to the public and academia about AMS, as well as serving as an initial step in preventing AMS among mountain climbers. Thus, the research makes a significant contribution to the development of Android-based expert systems for AMS diagnosis, with the potential to enhance preparation and health response during mountain climbing.
