Abstract

ENGLISH: Effective communication requires cooperation between speakers and listeners; however, speakers may deliberately flout conversational maxims to convey meanings beyond the literal interpretation of their utterances. This study aimed to identify the types of maxims flouted by Bobby Saputra and to describe how conversational implicatures arose from the flouting of those maxims during his podcast interview with Deddy Corbuzier in episode 897 of the Close the Door podcast. This study employed a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The data consisted of 50 utterances taken from Bobby Saputra’s responses in the podcast interview. The findings revealed that all four Gricean maxims were flouted, consisting of 20 instances of the maxim of quality, 13 instances of the maxim of relation, 11 instances of the maxim of manner, and 6 instances of the maxim of quantity. The maxim of quality was the most frequently flouted maxim because Bobby Saputra frequently produced exaggerated and unverifiable statements. The findings also showed that conversational implicatures arose when listeners interpreted utterances beyond their literal meaning by considering the conversational context and shared background knowledge. Through this inferential process, the flouting of the maxim of quality generated implicatures related to exaggerated and unverifiable claims, while the flouting of the maxims of quantity, relation, and manner generated implicatures associated with vagueness, evasiveness, and ambiguity. These implicatures functioned as a communicative strategy that enabled Bobby Saputra to express meanings indirectly while maintaining the consistency of his character throughout the interview. INDONESIA: Komunikasi yang efektif membutuhkan kerja sama antara penutur dan mitra tutur. Namun demikian, penutur dapat secara sengaja melanggar maksim percakapan untuk menyampaikan makna di luar interpretasi literal dari tuturannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis maksim yang dilanggar oleh Bobby Saputra serta mendeskripsikan bagaimana implikatur percakapan muncul akibat pelanggaran maksim tersebut dalam wawancara podcast bersama Deddy Corbuzier pada episode 897 podcast Close the Door. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis isi. Data penelitian terdiri atas 50 tuturan yang diambil dari respons Bobby Saputra dalam wawancara podcast tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keempat maksim Grice dilanggar, dengan rincian 20 pelanggaran pada maksim kualitas, 13 pelanggaran pada maksim relevansi, 11 pelanggaran pada maksim cara, dan 6 pelanggaran pada maksim kuantitas. Maksim kualitas merupakan maksim yang paling sering dilanggar karena Bobby Saputra kerap menghasilkan pernyataan yang berlebihan dan tidak dapat diverifikasi kebenarannya. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa implikatur percakapan muncul ketika pendengar menginterpretasikan tuturan di luar makna literalnya dengan mempertimbangkan konteks percakapan serta pengetahuan latar belakang yang dimiliki bersama. Melalui proses inferensi tersebut, pelanggaran maksim kualitas menghasilkan implikatur yang berkaitan dengan klaim berlebihan dan tidak dapat diverifikasi, sedangkan pelanggaran maksim kuantitas, relevansi, dan cara menghasilkan implikatur yang berkaitan dengan ketidakjelasan, sikap mengelak, dan ambiguitas. Implikatur-implikatur tersebut berfungsi sebagai strategi komunikasi yang memungkinkan Bobby Saputra menyampaikan makna secara tidak langsung sekaligus mempertahankan konsistensi karakternya sepanjang wawancara.
