Abstract

ENGLISH: Citation is an initial indicator reflecting the recognition and utilization of a scientific work by other researchers, however, the time required for an article to receive its first citation varies considerably. This study aims to analyze the time-to-first-citation pattern using a survival analysis approach on 825 Scopus-indexed mathematics journal articles published between 2015 and 2025, sourced from five journals, namely Advances in Applied Mathematics, Advances in Mathematics, Computational Geometry, Discrete Mathematics, and Information and Computation. The methods employed include the Kaplan-Meier estimator to estimate the survival probability of first citation, survival probability comparison test consisting of the Log-Rank, Breslow, Tarone-Ware, Peto-Peto, and Fleming-Harrington test to examine differences among journal groups, and a Discrete Hazard Model estimated through Maximum Likelihood Estimation with Fisher Scoring to identify the factors influencing the rate of first citation. The Kaplan-Meier estimation results show a median survival time of 1 year, with the probability of an article receiving its first citation in the year of publication amounting to 62,55%. The five comparison test consistently indicate significant differences between several journal pairs. The discrete hazard model identifies that the number of authors and the number of references significantly accelerate the probability of first citation, whereas quartile level and non-open access status significantly delay it, while CiteScore and international collaboration show no significant effect.
