Abstract

In a conversation, the speaker and the hearer are equally aware that there are the general principles of language use, which is called the cooperative principle or maxim. Maxim is used to make effectiveness and efficiency in a conversation. There are four maxims, such as maxim quantity, maxim quality, maxim relevance, and maxim manner. However, in real life, everyone cannot always obey the maxim. The flouts they commit are called flouting maxims. Then, in obeying or flouting those maxims, it is always contained conversational implicature. Conversational implicature is the implicit meaning that wants to be delivered by the speaker to the hearer. This research tries to analyze the flouting maxims that are found in the adult joke of Ice Age Series based on cooperative principle and its maxim by Grice. Another main objective of this research is to discover how utterance can go beyond its literal meaning. There are two research problems which are observed: 1) How do the characters flout the maxim in adult joke of Ice Age Series?, and 2) What the meaning of conversational implicatures are found in adult joke of Ice Age Series? The research design of this research is the descriptive qualitative method. The data are taken from utterances that content adult joke spoken by the characters in Ice Age Series. Besides watching the movies, the researcher also uses the scripts of the movies. It is intended to investigate that two research problems are in the relation of flouting maxim and conversational implicature in the adult joke of Ice Age Series. The results of this research are as follows. First, all types of flouting maxims are found in the movie, which is performed by using certain strategies. Then, the flouting that most commonly occurs in the adult joke of Ice Age Series is flouting maxim of manner because the speakers are being obscure when they talk about the adult joke. The second is maxim of relevance it is because some characters decide to change the topic when another character makes joke about adult thing. The next is maxim quantity and followed by maxim quality as the last. Then, the conversational implicatures that occur in this flouting maxims are swearwords, sexual innuendos, adult-appropriate references, and vocabulary that only can be understood by adult people. The suggestion for future research, other researchers are expected to conduct on related topic from different angle and different object, hoping that there will be new findings dealing with maxim, implicature, or joke. Dalam percakapan, pembicara dan pendengar sama-sama sadar bahwa ada prinsip umum penggunaan bahasa, yang disebut prinsip kerja sama atau maksim. Maksim digunakan untuk membuat efektifitas dan efisiensi dalam percakapan. Ada empat jenis maxim, seperti, maksim kuantitas, maksim kualitas, maksim relevansi, dan maksim cara. Namun, dalam kehidupan nyata, setiap orang tidak dapat selalu mematuhi pepatah. Hal yang mereka lakukan disebut dengan pelanggaran maksim. Kemudian, dalam mematuhi atau mengabaikan aturan maksim, tentulah selalu mengandung implikasi percakapan. Implikasi percakapan adalah makna implisit yang ingin disampaikan oleh pembicara kepada pendengar. Penelitian ini mencoba menganalisis pelanggaran maksim yang ditemukan dalam lelucon dewasa pada film Ice Age Series berdasarkan prinsip kooperatif dan maksim Grice. Tujuan utama lainnya dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan bagaimana ucapan dapat melampaui makna harfiahnya. Ada dua masalah penelitian yang diamati: 1) Bagaimana karakter melanggar maksim dalam lelucon dewasa Ice Age Series ?, dan 2) Apa makna implikatur percakapan yang ditemukan dalam lelucon dewasa Ice Age Series? Desain penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari ujaran-ujaran yang berisi lelucon orang dewasa yang diucapkan oleh tokoh-tokoh dalam Ice Age Series. Selain menonton film, peneliti juga menggunakan skrip film tersebut. Hal ini dimaksudkan untuk menyelidiki bahwa dua masalah penelitian dalam kaitannya dengan pelanggaran maksim dan implikatur percakapan dalam lelucon dewasa dari Ice Age Series. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut; Pertama, semua jenis pelanggaran maksim ditemukan dalam film, dan dilakukan dengan menggunakan strategi tertentu. Kemudian, pelanggaran yang paling sering terjadi dalam lelucon dewasa pada film Ice Age Series adalah maksim cara, karena para pembicara tidak menuturkan secara jelas ketika mereka berbicara tentang lelucon orang dewasa. Yang kedua adalah maksim hubungan, itu karena beberapa karakter memutuskan untuk mengubah topik pembicaraan ketika karakter lain membuat lelucon dewasa. Kemudian, peringkat berikutnya adalah pelanggaran maksim kuantitas yang kemudian diikuti oleh pelanggaran maksim kualitas. Kemudian, implikatur percakapan yang terjadi dalam pelanggaran maksim ini adalah kata umpatan, sindiran seksual, referensi yang sesuai dengan orang dewasa, dan kosakata yang hanya dapat dipahami oleh orang dewasa. Saran untuk penelitian yang akan datang, peneliti lain diharapkan untuk melakukannya pada topik terkait dari sudut pandang dan objek yang berbeda, dan diharapkan akan adanya temuan baru yang berhubungan dengan maksim, implikatur, atau lelucon.
