Abstract

Science process skills (SPS) are a fundamental component of chemistry learning, yet the SPS of Indonesian senior high school students remain relatively low due to limited meaningful laboratory activities. This study aims to develop and analyze the improvement of SPS among senior high school students through the implementation of a project-based student worksheet (LKPD) on soap production using coffee grounds as a natural additive. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 36 eleventh- grade students at SMAN 26 Bandung on colloid material. The worksheet was structured according to six stages of Project-Based Learning, and SPS was measured using a multiple-choice test. Prior to implementation, the 15-item SPS test was piloted on 10 students to examine item difficulty and reliability, in addition to the project-based worksheet (LKPD) having been validated by three experts (two chemistry education lecturers and one senior high school chemistry teacher).Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, and N-Gain analysis. Results showed that project implementation fell into the very good category (mean = 81.15). SPS scores increased significantly from a pretest mean of 54.99 to a posttest mean of 95.73 (Z = -5.249; p < 0.001; effect size r = 0.88), with an N-Gain of 0.91 (high category). These findings indicate that the project-based worksheet on coffee-ground soap production effectively improves students' science process skills while supporting sustainable organic waste utilization.
