Abstract

In the documentary film of One Direction This Is Us, there found many deixis. Therefore the writer is interested analyzing the topic about deixis with the research questions: 1. What types of deixis are found in the documentary film of One Directon, This Is Us? 2. What types of deixis are found in the documentary film of One Directon, This Is Us? This research uses descriptive qualitative method by analyzing document. The data collected are in a form of words. The main theory used is theory from Levinson (1983). From the data analysis in the chapter IV, the result shows that person deixis (24 data), time deixis (15 data), place deixis (10 data), dicourse deixis (10 data), and social deixis (5 data). Meanwhile, the function of deixis found are referential function (42 data), conative function (9 data), emotive function (7 data), poetic function (4 data), phatic function (2 data). However metalingual function is not found. Based on the findings of data analysis above, the result of the research can be concluded that in the documentary film of One Direction This Is Us, there have been found many deixis especially for the type of person as in this film the characters mostly talk about their life, with the function as referential one to talk about certain topic. This documentary film can be analyzed by deixis theory from Levinson. This research is expected to give benefits for students or general people, especially for English Department students.
