Abstract
This research analyzes the inner and outer conflicts experienced by Dorian Gray in Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. The researcher use conflicts character theory by Frank Madden. The theory explained that has two kinds of conflict character, inner and outer conflicts. The method used is structuralism method to analyze and describe the inner and outer conflicts experienced by Dorian Gray. The data were collected using literature research. As the literary criticism, the purpose of this research was to determine the development of inner and outer conflicts of Dorian Gray, until he finally committed suicide. The analysis was carried out by using a structural approach to present all description analyzes in general, characterization and conflicts of Dorian Gray as the main character that ended tragically in the novel. Thus, the researcher found that the inner and outer conflicts experienced by Dorian Gray in Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, brought him into the ruin of his life. He became a bad person and did not even have mercy or lack of empathy on other characters. For him, beauty and youth are everything. He feels without beauty and youth, he is nothing until he kills himself. In extreme, the way of he thinks, personality and behavior is change.
