Abstract

The researcher addresses about morphology in process of combining two words becoming a new word. This present study focuses on the category, types of compound and the reason for compound words of store names are. This research used Booij’s The Grammar of Word An Introduction to Morphology (2007). Garvey’s The English Language From Sound to Sense (2010). Lieber’s Introducing Morphology (2009) and others theory that relating to solve the problem in this research. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research which the researcher identify, categorize, interpret and conclude the data systematically to be able to answer the research questions. The data used in this research were taken by visited to the store that will be made as data in Bandung Indah Plaza Mall. The other data were taken from questionnaire toward staffs about their reason of store’s name. The result showed that there are 26 compound words that had been analyzed. They are 21 data of compound noun which used the form noun+noun, 2 data of compound verb which used the form noun+verb, 3 data of compound adjective which used the form noun+noun and noun+adjective. Then there are 2 types of compound word had found, they are Attributive (23 data) and subordinative (3 data). The staffs gave a variety of answers. Most of the staffs gave the reasons based on the goods that are sold in it and the other staffs gave the answer based on the order of the owners. ABSTRAK Peneliti membahas tentang morfologi dalam proses menggabungkan dua kata menjadi kata baru. Penelitian ini berfokus pada kategori, jenis dan alasan untuk kata majemuk pada nama toko. Penelitian ini menggunakan Teori Booij The Grammar of Word An Introduction to Morphology (2007). Teori Garvey The English Language From Sound to Sense (2010). Teori dari Lieber Memperkenalkan Morfologi (2009) dan teori lain yang berkaitan untuk memecahkan masalah dalam penelitian ini. Metode kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini dimana peneliti mengidentifikasi, mengkategorisasi, interpretasi, dan menyimpulkan hasil analisis data secara sistematis untuk dapat menjawab pertanyaan penelitian. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini diambil dengan mengunjungi toko yang akan dijadikan data di Bandung Indah Plaza. Data lain diambil dengan kuesioner terhadap pemilik tentang alasan mereka untuk nama toko. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa ada 26 kata majemuk yang telah dianalisis. Mereka adalah 21 data dari kata benda majemuk yang menggunakan bentuk nomina + kata benda, 2 data kata kerja majemuk yang menggunakan bentuk nomina + kata kerja, 3 data kata majemuk yang menggunakan bentuk kata benda + kata benda dan kata benda + kata sifat. Kemudian ada dua jenis kata majemuk yang ditemukan, yaitu atributif (23 data) dan subordinatif (3 data). Para staf memberi jawaban yang beragam. Sebagian besar staf memberi alasan berdasarkan barang yang dijual di toko tersebut. Beberapa staf menjawab karena permintaan pemiliknya.
