Abstract

Language in this era is not only used for communicating but also used as a tool to exchange information whether in the country or abroad, and at that time there is language contact. It cannot be denied anymore from the language contact will occur the language borrowing, especially English. However, some of Indonesian people do not realize and no matter what they read in the books or other media comes from the borrowing process or not. There are two research questions in this paper: 1) what types of English borrowing words are used in Matahari novel by Tere Liye. 2) what change of meaning occurs in English borrowing words used in Matahari novel by Tere Liye. The theories are used to analyze the morphosemantic analysis are Haugen’s and Baugh’s theory. Haugen (1950) classifies language borrowing into three types, there are loanword, loanblend, and loanshift. While Baugh (2002) classifies change of meaning into four types, there are the extension of meaning, narrowing of meaning, regeneration of meaning and degeneration of meaning. This paper uses descriptive qualitative, this method is used to complete the research questions. The writer also uses several dictionaries to analyze the data which are found. The data are taken from Matahari novel by Tere Liye. The writer found 12 loanword types, 74 loanblend types, and 1 loanshift type. Besides, in the process change of meaning the writer found; 4 words extension of meaning, 4 words narrowing of meaning and 79 words have the same of meaning. In this paper is not found regeneration and narrowing of meaning. The result of this paper is some of the English borrowing words can change the meaning such as extension and narrowing. Furthermore, the analysis of borrowing words is very important, because so that everyone knows some of words in Bahasa Indonesia are borrowed from another language, one of them is English.
