Abstract

This research analyzes Elizabeth Gilbert’s novel Eat, Pray, Love. The objectives of this research are to analyzed about the love that represented by the characters and to identify the stages of each relationship built by Elizabeth Gilbert and the three men characters i.e. Stephen, David and Felipe. This study uses objective approach to help analyze the development of Elizabeth Gilbert’s relationship that happens along the story. The primary data use dare taken from the novel itself. The secondary data are from the books related to the theory of stages of love relationship and articles from the Internet. The results of this research show that Elizabeth Gilbert has different development intensities with her three relationships. The highest intensity in her love relationship is with Felipe, since both of them pass all of the stages of relationship and due to the nature of their relationship. Some similarities which can be observed are that Gilbert starts her love relationships from the beginning with both David and Felipe; she ends her love relationships with both Stephen and David on Non Love stage. The difference is that Gilbert starts her love relationship from different stages for each relationship. Penelitian ini menganalisis Novel Elizabeth Gilbert Eat, Pray, Love. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tentang cinta yang diwakili oleh karakter dan untuk mengidentifikasi tahapan dari setiap hubungan yang dibangun oleh Elizabeth Gilbert dan tiga orang karakter yaitu Stephen, David dan Felipe. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan obyektif untuk membantu menganalisis pembangunan hubungan Elizabeth Gilbert yang terjadi di sepanjang cerita. Data primer yang digunakan diambil dari novel itu sendiri. Data sekunder berasal dari buku-buku yang berkaitan dengan teori tahapan hubungan cinta dan artikel dari internet. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Elizabeth Gilbert memiliki intensitas hubungan yang berbeda dengan tiga hubungannya. Intensitas tertinggi dalam hubungan cintanya adalah dengan Felipe, karena keduanya lulus semua tahapan hubungan dan karena sifat dari hubungan mereka. Beberapa kesamaan yang dapat diamati adalah bahwa Gilbert memulai hubungan kedua cintanya dari awal dengan David dan Felipe; akhirnya dia mengakhiri hubungan kedua cintanya dengan Stephen dan David pada tahap Tanpa Cinta Perbedaannya adalah bahwa Gilbert mulai hubungan cintanya dari tahapan yang berbeda untuk setiap hubungan.
