Abstract
Writing is a productive skill which assume as the most difficult because there are a lot of aspects that should be mastered. Through writing, students are able to delivering idea, criticism, or suggestion in writing. However, most of the students get some difficulties in writing. There are some problems often faced by students. Then, to make stuents easier to learn, tutorial video is applied in teaching writing especially on Procedure Text. The research aims to explore the effectiveness of students’ writing procedural text through tutorial video and students’ writing procedural text by using conventional method (textbook and whiteboard). This research used quantitative approach with experimental method. The researcher used quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was the ninth grade of MTs Negeri Kota Cimahi consisted of 10 classes. Two classes were taken as a sample of the research. The class 9-I was an experimental group and class 9-H as a control group. The experimental group was taught by using tutorial video, while the control group was taught by using conventional method. The instrument for collecting data was writing test. The findings of the research indicated that tutorial video was significantly effective in exploring students’ writing procedural text. It can be seen from the result of pretest and posttest data that were analyzed statistically using SPSS version 20.0 for Windows. The result of the posttest score of the experimental class (78,63) was higher than the control class (67,12). It was supported by the independent t-test showed the calculated tcount value = 4.136 > ttable value =1.997. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and there is a significant differences between students’ writing procedural text through tutorial video and conventional method. Therefore, the researcher concluded that tutorial video is appropriate in exploring students’ writing procedural text to the ninth grade students of MTs Negeri Kota Cimahi in the academic year 2018/2019. It is suggested for the English teacher that Tutorial Video can be applied as an alternative media in teaching writing and other skills like reading, listening, and speaking with different genres.
