Abstract

INDONESIA: Sesuatu lain yang memiliki makna. Simbol biasanya memiliki makna tersembunyi yang merupakan sebuah pesan yang pada akhirnya menimbulkan sebuah mitos. Mitos adalah sebuah sistem komunikasi, yang merupakan pesan (Barthes, 1983: 107). Apa saja bisa jadi mitos termasuk simbol-simbol di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons yang mencerminkan sebuah kehidupan sebagai tipe wicara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menjawab dua rumusan masalah: 1) apa saja tanda dari simbol-simbol mitos di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons? 2) bagaimana simbol-simbol mitos di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons diterapkan ke dalam kelima kode? Konsep Saussure mengenai penanda-petanda dikembangkan oleh Barthes menjadi ekspresi dan konten. Ekspresi pada lapis penanda dan konten pada lapis petanda. Diantara ekspresi dan konten harus ada relasi yang membentuk tanda. Barthes (1983: 89) merumuskan sistem penandaan yang berisi ekspresi (E) memiliki hubungan (R) dengan konten (C). Teori ini dikembangkan oleh Barthes dan menghasilkan denotasi dan konotasi. Lima kode yang diajukan oleh Barthes termasuk: kode proairetik, kode hermeneutik, kode semantik, kode simbolik, dan kode budaya, yang diterapkan ke dalam simbol-simbol mitos di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif qualitatif. Metode ini menjelaskan tanda-tanda di dalam simbol-simbol mitos, dan bagaimana lima kode diterapkan ke dalam simbol-simbol mitos di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons. Dari penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan delapan simbol-simbol mitos di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons. Simbol-simbol mitos tersebut dibangun oleh sejarah mereka melalui alur cerita drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons. Kemudian, kelima kode Barthes diterapkan ke dalam delapan simbol mitos yang mana diantara kode-kode tersebut menciptakan kehadiran sebuah pesan atau nilai-nilai yang diungkapkan melalui simbol-simbol mitos di dalam drama seri Da Vinci’s Demons. ENGLISH: Symbol is used by people as a system of communication that represents something else which has a meaning. Symbol usually has a hidden meaning as a message which may eventually think out a myth. Myth is a system of communication, that it is a message (Barthes, 1983: 107). Everything can be a myth include the symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons that reflect a life as the type of speech. The purpose of this research is intended to answer two research questions: 1) what are the signs of the mythical symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons? 2) how the mythical symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons are applied into the five codes? Concept of Saussure about signifier and signified is developed by Barthes with expression and content. Expression refers to signifier order, whereas content refers to signified order. Between expression and content there is a relation that forms a sign. Barthes (1983: 89) formulates the signification system consisting of expression (E) that has relation (R) with content (C). This theory is developed by Barthes that produce denotation and connotation. The five codes proposed by Barthes include: the proairetic code, the hermeneutic code, the semantic code, the symbolic code, and the cultural code, those are applied into mythical symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons. The research uses qualitative descriptive method. This method explains the signs of the mythical symbols and how the five codes are applied into the mythical symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons. From this research, the researcher found eight mythical symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons. The mythical symbols are built by their history through the plot of story of drama series Da Vinci’s Demons. Then, the five codes proposed by Barthes are applied into those eight mythical symbols which are between the codes created existence of a message or values expressed through the mythical symbols in drama series Da Vinci’s Demons.
