Abstract

INDONESIA Novel John Steinbeck yang berjudul Of Mice and Men merupakan sebuah narasi novel tentang pekerja yang berpindah, George dan Lennie. George adalah seseorang yang kecil, berkulit gelap dengan “cerdik, ciri yang kuat.” Lennie, temannya, adalah sebaliknya, seseorang pria bertubuh besar dengan wajah “tak indah”. Steinbeck mengungkapkan psikologis aspeknya melalui novel ini oleh karakter Lennie dan karakter lainnya. Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan utama yairu untuk mengetahui Id, Ego, Superego pada Steinbeck melalui karakter Lennie pada novel Of Mice and Men dan menjelaskan tentang kepribadian Steinbeck dengan memperlihatkan setiap karakter lainnya dalam novel Of Mice and Men. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra dengan teori Psikoanalisis dari Sigmund Freud. Novel ini penuh dengan masalah psikologis kepribadian Steinbeck melalui karakter Lennie (Id, Ego, Superego) dan karakter lainnya terutama. Masalah psikologis, kepribadian disebabkan oleh karakter lainnya (mendukung), lingkungan (sistem faksi). Berdasarkan hasil pengumpulan data dari Id, Ego dan Superego tergambar dalam novel ini, terbukti dalam kejiwaan Steinbeck dalam tokoh Lennie. Id sebagai kesadaran gaya tarik di bawah sadar, Ego sebagai eksekutor yang akan mengendalikan apa yang Id perintahkan terhadap realitas, sementara Superego adalah menggabungkan antara nilai dan moral terhadap masarakat. ENGLISH John Steinbeck’s novel titled Of Mice and Men is a narrative novel about two migrant worker, George and Lennie. George is a small, dark man with “sharp, strong features.” Lennie, his companion, is his opposite, a giant of a man with a “shapeless” face. Steinbeck express psychological with this novel by way Lennie’s character and each other character. This research has two main objectives to know id, ego, and superego at Stainbeck by way Lennie’s character in Of Mice and Men. And to describe the personality of Steinbeck to express each other character in Of Mice and Men. This research uses literary psychology approach with psychoanalysis theory of Sigmund Freud. This novel that full with psychological problem of Steinbeck personality by way Lennie (Id, Ego, Superego) and each other character especially. The psychological problem; the personality are caused by others (supporting) character, and environment (faction system). Based on the result of Id, Ego, and Superego data collecting that depicted in this novel, it is proved that Steinbeck’s psychological by Lennie. Id as a magic awareness in unconscious mind, Ego as executor will control what the Id want grounded on reality, while Superego is incorporates between value and morals of society.
