Abstract

INDONESIA Tokoh merupakan pelaku yang mengemban peristiwa dalam cerita sehingga peristiwa itu mampu menjalin cerita dan menjadi satu kesatuan yang utuh. Tokoh memiliki karakter, sifat atau prilaku tertentu dalalm sebuah cerita, dari karakter ini lah bisa di lihat bagaimana bangun cerita tersebut terbentuk. Karenanya penelitian ini difokuskan pada perubahan karakterisasi Alexis dalam naskah drama karya Kenneth Sawyer Goodman yang berjudul The Game of Chess. Peneliti memformulasikan masalah dalam dua pertanyaan penelitian, yaitu: 1) How does the character of Alexis change in Kenneth Sawyer Goodman’s The Game of Chess? 2) What factors of changing characterization of Alexis in Kenneth Sawyer Goodman’s The Game of Chess? Metode yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode kualitatif yang mengambil data berupa kata-kata atau dialog dari naskah. Berdasarkan analisis data, penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Alexis sebagai tokoh utama mengalami empat fase perubahan; 1) Sebelum Alexis bertemu dengan Boris. 2) Setelah Alexis Bertemu dengan Boris. 3) Sebelum Alexis meminum racun. 4) Setelah Alexis meminum racun. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat di simpulkan bahwa perubahan karakterisasi pada Alexis sebagai setrategi politik. Terdapat beberapa faktor perubahan karakter Alexis dalam naskah drama karya Kenneth Sawyer Goodman yang berjudul The Game of Chess, yaitu; 1) Strategi untuk mengalahkan Boris. 2) Untuk membasmi pemberontak. 3) Untuk kesetabilitasan pemerintah. ENGLISH Character is an actor who carries the evens in the story so that it is able to establish the story and become a unified whole. The story of the drama can be built by exploring characteristic, nature and behavior of the character. Therefore this study focuses on finding out the changing characterization of Alexis in Kenneth Sawyer Goodman’s the Game of Chess with two research questions, namely: 1) How does the character of Alexis change in Kenneth Sawyer Goodman’s The Game of Chess? 2) What factors of changing characterization of Alexis in Kenneth Sawyer Goodman’s The Game of Chess? The method in this research uses qualitative method by analyzing the data taken from dialogue of the text play. Based on the data analysis, this study shows that Alexis, the name of main character, experiences four phases of changes; 1) Before Alexis met with Boris. 2). After Alexis met with Boris. 3) Before Alexis drank the poison. 4) After Alexis drank the poison. From the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the changing characterization of Alexis as his political strategy. There are several factors of changing character of Alexis in Kenneth Sawyer Goodman’s The Game of Chess such as; 1) Strategy to defeat Boris. 2) for exterminating the insurgent. 3). For stability of Alexis’s government.
