Abstract
Reading has an important aspect in helping students to learn English mainly to improve their reading comprehension and also to develop their ideas. Besides, reading also helps students to gain much information from the text and increases their fluency in English. There are some strategies that teachers can use in teaching reading to the students. One of them is using visual literacy. This research attempts to know: 1) the result of students’ reading comprehension before using visual literacy, 2) the result of students’ reading comprehension after using visual literacy, and 3) the significant improvement students’ reading comprehension before and after taught by using visual literacy. The research method used is a quantitative method in the form of quasi-experimental design with one-group pre-test post-test design. The research was conducted on the second-grade students in MTs. Miftahul Falah Bandung. There were 36 students selected as the research samples.The instruments used in this research were reading comprehension pre-test and post-test. The form of pre-test and post-test used are 20 multiple choices. Furthermore, this research was analyzed by statistical analysis procedures used normality, t-test and N-gain. The result indicates that teaching reading comprehension by using visual literacy significantly improves students’ reading comprehension. It can be seen from the result of pre-test and post-test data analysis, the average (mean) score is 52 to 77. And, the result of t-test shows that
