Abstract

ENGLISH This research aims to discuss about reference in Bon Jovi’s Have a Nice Song Day album with the relation of cohesion. The lyrics used as the object of the study, in which to analyzed the meaning of the songs lyrics and to know why those songs was created. Therefore, the research quetions focuss on: (1) how do the types of reference become a part of making the text cohesive in Bon Jovi’s Have a Nice Day Song album, and (2) what forms of reference are found in Bon Jovi’s in Have a Nice Day Song album. It also concern those two topics with semantics theories, cohesion especially reference. The research method which applied is a description qualitative as description to show the types and forms are identified acoording to Halliday and Hasan (1976) cohesion theory which produces reference in the song lyrics. It shows the types of reference become a part making the text cohesive including personal reference, demonstrative reference, and comparative reference, and it also shows the forms of reference consist of exophoric reference, endophoric reference including anaphoric reference, and cataphoric reference. As the result of the research shows that all types of reference, and endophoric reference described to person who expression his experience which refers to life especially about struggle, relationship, and family. Beside that, some items of exophoric reference in those songs lyrics out of the text inside but still has relation with experience of the person. INDONESIA Penelitian ini membahas referensi dan relasinya dengan kohesi dalam lirik lagu dari Bon Jovi album Have a Nice Day. Objek penelitian ini membahas tentang lirik lagu agar mudah di pahami maksudnya, dan agar memahami kenapa lagu-lagu tersebut dicipatakan. Hal tersebut dapat dibagi kedalam 2 pertanyaan; (1) how do the types of reference become a part of making the text cohesive in Bon Jovi’s Have a Nice Day Song album, and (2) what forms of reference are found in Bon Jovi’s Have a Nice Day Song album. Pertanyaan-pertanyaan tersebut akan dianalisis melalui beberapa teori tertentu seperti semantik, kosehi, dan khususnya referensi. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menunjukan jenis-jenis dan bentuk-bentuk dari referensi yang berdasarkan teori kohesi atau referensi dari Halliday dan Hasan (1976), yang di analisa di lirik lagu tersebut. Hal itu, menujukan bagaimana jenis-jenis referensi tersebut menjadi bagian dari kohesi, dan jenis-jenisnya seperti personal referensi, demonstrative referensi, and comparative referensi, and juga menunjukan bentuk-bentuk referensi yang terdiri dari exophora referensi, endophora referensi termasuk anaphora referensi, and kataphora referensi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa semua jenis-jenis referensi, dan endhopora referensi menggambarkan tentang seseorang yang mengekspresikan pengalaman pribadinya yang bersifat tentang kehidupan seperti perjuangan, cinta, dan keluarga. Selain itu, beberapa item exophora terlihat tidak padu dengan cerita lirik lagu, akan tetapi masih ada kaitan dengan pengalaman tentang orang yang dimaksud di lagu-lagu tersebut.
