Abstract

Slang is non-formal or casual spoken English created and used by people in a certain community. Slang is unique because its existence is an interesting aspect in every language system. Therefore, the researcher needs to conduct the research dealing with such topic with research questions: What types of slang are used by teenagers in the movie? Why does slang tend to be utilized by teenager in the Juno movie? In this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method by analysis document with the main theory Eric Partridge (1945) theories and other relevant references. He uses the movie’s scripts that initialized in the movie as the unit of analysis, then he also uses the background and setting of the movie to make the reasons of the characters why they are using the slang terms. Based on data analysis, the researcher finds that there are two kinds of slang that in the movie. They are Society Slang (32 data) and Slang in Public School and University (2 data). Meanwhile, the reason for using the slang by teenagers in the Juno movie are: To show that one belongs to a certain school, to enrich the language and to lend an air of solidity. From the result of data analysis, it can be concluded that type of slang that is widely used by teenagers is society slang. Meanwhile, the reason for using slang in the movie entitle “Juno” is to communicate in social interaction.
