Abstract

INDONESIA Quote adalah sebuah seni komunikasi. Quote umumnya disampaikan dengan cara yang unik secara gramatikal dan semantik dengan maksud tidak langsung terkait apa yang disampaikan oleh pembicara atau penulis. Banyak orang menggunakan quote agar dapat mencapai tujuan mereka dalam komunikasi. Untuk memahami makna yang disampaikan oleh quote, quote dapat dianalisa dengan mengidentifikasi maknanya menggunakan analisa semantik. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, penulis menyatakan masalahnya adalah: Apa makna quotes berdasarkan theory tujuh tipe makna Geoffrey Leech dalam buku motivasi Napoleon Hill Think and Grow Rich? Penelitian ini menggunakan teori tujuh tipe makna Geoffrey Leech dan didukung oleh teori lain terkait dengan semantik untuk menganalisa quote. Penulis mengidentifikasi tipe makna kata atau frasa dan mengetahui makna dari kata atau frasa dari quote. Data diambil dari buku Think and Grow Rich. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menganalisa data. Hasil dari penelitian adalah terdapat beberapa tipe makna yang dapat diidentifikasi dari kata atau frasa di dalam quote. Tipe makna tersebut meliputi: makna konseptual, makna konotatif, makna sosial, makna afektif, makna reflekted, makna kolokatif, dan makna tematik. Kata atau frasa yang dianalisa mengandung makna-makna berbeda yang menjelaskan keseluruhan makna dari kalimat quote. Keseluruhan makna dari quote menjelaskan tentang functional properties yang mempengaruhi efektifitas dari quote. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah quote-quote yang sudah dianalisa mempunyai makna standar tinggi berdasarkan konten dan konteksnya dan mempunyai tujuan untuk memotivasi banyak orang mencapai prestasi hebat, menjadi kaya, dan memperoleh kesuksesan dalam hidup mereka. ENGLISH Quote is an art of communication. Quote commonly is conveyed by unique way grammatically and semantically with indirect purposes about what is conveyed by speaker or writer. People use quote in order to achieve their goals in communication. To understand the meaning that is conveyed by quote, the quote can be analyzed by identifying the meaning uses semantic analysis. Based on that background, the writer stated the problem is: What are the meanings of the quotes based on Geoffrey Leech’s theory of seven types of meaning in Napoleon Hill’s motivational book Think and Grow Rich? This research used Geoffrey Leech’s seven types of meaning theory and supported by other theories related with semantics to analyze the quotes. The writer identified types of meaning words or phrases and find out the meaning of words or phrases from the quotes. The data are taken from Think and Grow Rich book. This research used descriptive method and qualitative approach to analyze the data. The results of the research are there are some types of meaning that can be identified from words or phrases in the quotes. The types of meaning including: conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, and thematic meaning. The words or phrases that were analyzed contain different meanings that explain the entire meaning of the quotes. The entire meaning of the quotes describe about the functional properties which is account for effectiveness of the quotes. The conclusions of this research are the quotes that have been analyzed have high standard meaning based on their content and context and have aims to motivate people attain great achievement, become rich, and get success in their life.
