Abstract
This research investigates the presupposition in the song lyrics by My Chemical Romance’s album. The research has two research questions which indicated the process of the analysis of the song lyrics; 1) What are the types of presupposition found in My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade album lyrics? 2) What are the types of presupposition appears more often and less used in My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade album lyrics? Yule’s theory and descriptive qualitative research method applied in this research. 14 song lyrics by My Chemical Romance’s album selected to this research. The result of this research showed that the researcher found 38 presuppositions. The twelve data from My Chemical Romance’s album which contain lexical presuppositions. Then, 4 factive data and 4 non factive. Meanwhile, the types of presupposition that are rarely found in the song lyrics are existential types. Next, 7 data structural presupposition. The last is 8 counter factual presupposition. The researcher hopes that further researchers who are interested in observing presupposition to explore more about presupposition in other types of song lyrics. Thus, the singer of my chemical romance seems to be using more lexical presupposition type in the song lyrics content of his album and the type of existential is rarely found.
