Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis concerns with negative politeness strategies in Primal Fear movie script. The main issues in this research are about kinds of negative politeness strategies in conversation and the face wants between speakers and hearers. Research used politeness theory by Brown and Levinson (1987) especially 10 strategies in negative politeness. The research question is 1 ) What is the kind of negative politeness used in conversation of Primal Fear movie ?, 2) What the face wants of the speaker and the hearer in character Primal Fear movie ? The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method, this method can be used to describe the speech contained in the conversations of the characters. The source of this research data is the Primal Fear movie. To analyze the type of propriety strategy that is divided into several strategies and knowing the effects or reactions of the face to the speaker and the audience contained in the film. The results are : strategy 2 be conventionally indirect is 6 datum, strategy 2 question and hedge is 3 datum, strategy 3 be Pessimistic is 2 datum, Strategy 7 Impersonalize the speaker and the hearer (3), strategy 8 state the FTA as a general rule is 1 datum, strategy 9 nominalize is 1 datum, strategy 10 go on record as incurring a debt. or as not indebting H is 1 datum. And there is 7 datum influence data for what the face wants. The conclusion contain from the result answer of the research questions and the suggestion for the other researcher. Suggestion in this research is expected to contribute to the development of pragmatic theory and especially in the theory of politeness.For the next researcher can be used as a source in analyzing politeness by using Brown & Levinson theory. ABSTRAK Tesis ini berkaitan dengan strategi kesopanan negatif dalam naskah film Primal Fear . isu utama dalam penelitian ini adalah tentang jenis-jenis kesopanan negatif dalam percakapan dan bagaimana harga diri diantara pembicara dan pendengaryaitu : 1). Apa jenis kesopanan negatif yang digunakan pada percakapan dalam film Primal Fear? 2). Apa harga diri dari pembicara dan pendengar di karakter film Primal Fear? penelitian ini menggunakan teori kesopanan dari Brown dan Levinson (1987) terutama 10 strategi dalan kesopanan negatif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif, metode ini bisa digunakan untuk menggambarkan ujaran para tokoh yang terdapat dalam film, dan sumber data penelitian ini adalah film Primal Fear. Untuk menganalisis jenis strategi kesopanandan mengetahui harga diri dari pembicara dan pendengar yang terdapat dalam film. Dan ada 7 data untuk pengaruh keinginan wajah pembicara dan pendengar. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi pada perkembangan teori pragmatik dan terutama dalam teori kesopanan. Bagi peneliti berikutnya dapat digunakan sebagai sumber dalam menganalisis strategi kesopanan dengan mengunakan teori Brown dan Levinson.
