Abstract

Code mixing refers to the mixing of two or more languages or language varieties in speech. That is why the researcher chose code mixing to be analyzed, with the research questions; 1) what are the forms of code mixing in Alitt Susanto’s tweet, 2) what are the functions of code mixing in Alitt Susanto’s tweet. To answer the questions, the researcher used some theories, Suwito’s theory to answer the first question about the forms of code mixing, and Musyken’s theory to answer the last question about the functions of code mixing. To limit the object, the researcher took 50 tweets as data. This research also used descriptive method and qualitative approach. Those data were collected by identifying, listing, and tabulating the data. The collected data were then analyzed, interpreted, and concluded. The finding showed that there were five forms found in this research; 18 code mixing in the form of phrase, 16 code mixing in the form of word, 7 code mixing in the form of hybrid, 7 code mixing in the form of clause, and 2 code mixing in the form of word reduplication. Besides, there were three functions found in this research; 41 the reverential functions, 6 the directive functions, and 3 the poetic functions. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the most used forms of code mixing in Alitt Susanto’s tweet is code mixing in the form of phrase. Therefore, the most used functions in Alitt Susanto’s tweet is the reverential function.
