Abstract
Problem-solving skills are considered one of the most important skills to be acquired in the 21st century. It can be developed through various learning process, including project-based learning. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate a short movie project as a project-based learning activity to foster Indonesian EFL students’ problem-solving skills. Qualitative method with narrative inquiry is used in this study to obtain particpants’ stories in experiencing the production of a short movie. The participants of this study are three English education department students from a state university in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The data is taken from observation and interview supported with photographs to validate the data. The result of this study reveals that students involved in the short movie project face various problems and solve them. It is found that the students’ problem-solving ability is increased after facing and solving the problems in the short movie project. The study also shows that the short movie project promotes probem-solving in language learning. In conclusion, producing a short movie as a project-based learning activity explores students’ problem-solving skills. Students try to face and solve problem with their own way. This study suggests teachers to create and involve students in a project-based learning activity. It is also recommended for students to actively engage in the project-based learning activity created by the teacher.
